Food for all - an initiative going beyond

The family members facing food-insecurity are exposed to poverty and more likely struggle with psychological and behavioral health issues. It is also evident that kids struggling to get sufficient to eat are more likely to have problems in school and other social situations.

SCARBOROUGH
SENIORS FOOD RESCUE

Amidst the outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Food-Pantry @ Morningside started serving communities with safety and following all Public Health protocols. From the Shopping model, we changed to the Hamper model to ensure social distancing and safety of staff, volunteers, and clients. We service clients from our foodbank location at Mornelle Hub located in 90 Mornelle Court, but with the ever-growing need of the food in the vulnerable and most at risk in the community: seniors, we decided to serve them food at their home.

Proudly funded by Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and United Way of Greater Toronto, as increased need, seniors are served culturally associated cooked food. The seniors whom we serve are most at risk, isolated and unable to ask help as they have largely language barriers making them most vulnerable. Scarborough Seniors food rescue “is a new initiative CSAGSS started of providing culturally associated FREE cooked food to seniors. The most vulnerable seniors are the ones who faces social isolation due to language barriers, unable to reach the resources available to them. Hence through this initiative their needs are taken care.
